In the rainforests of Sumatra, there are many opportunities to experience rafting. We offer three levels, ranging from a leisurely day on the Bohorok River to the demanding Level 5 rapids of the Asahan River.

Contact us with your preferred date and experience. Where possible, we place guests with other groups so that smaller bookings do not miss the opportunity to join.

Bohorok River

The experience

Starting from your hotel or guesthouse in Bukit Lawang, you raft approximately 5 km downstream for around 3 hours on large tubes tied together by expert guides. Along the way, you stop for a BBQ lunch on the riverbank. At the end of the trip, you return to your accommodation by air-conditioned car or motorbike, depending on group size.

Book Bohorok River

The experience

The tour begins in the small village of Marike in Langkat, approximately one hour from Bukit Lawang. During the day, you visit riverside hot springs accessible only by boat, as well as a cascading waterfall where you can swim and relax.

Rafting route

This is a full-day adventure including lunch, time at the attractions and approximately 4–5 hours of rafting over 25 km of river with more challenging rapids.

Transfer to Asahan

At 08:30, your guide collects you from your hotel or guesthouse in Bukit Lawang. You travel by air-conditioned car to Asahan, a journey of approximately 10 hours, with regular stops for breaks and lunch. On arrival, you check into your homestay and have free time to relax and explore.

Asahan Bottom Line

After breakfast, travel around 1 hour 30 minutes to Parhitean Village. Following raft preparation, a full safety demonstration and instruction, you experience approximately 2–3 hours of whitewater rafting. Paddle through challenging waves including Batu Mamak and the natural waves at Bedeng, passing beautiful waterfalls along the way. Enjoy lunch with the team on the riverbank before returning to your homestay.

Asahan Upper Line

After breakfast, travel to the upper course of the Asahan River—the International Competition Line. After equipment preparation and a full safety briefing, raft approximately 3 km for around one hour through extreme rapids, finishing at Simatupang Camp. Enjoy lunch before being driven to your accommodation or the airport in Medan.
