Most international travellers arrive through Kuala Namu International Airport near Medan. From there, you can travel by private car, shared tourist bus or local public transport.
Your best choice depends on your arrival time, budget, luggage and how much comfort you prefer. We can also arrange transfers between Bukit Lawang, Berastagi and Lake Toba as part of a wider North Sumatra journey.
Pick-up can be arranged directly from the airport or your Medan hotel.

These are the two routes most commonly used by independent travellers. Allow extra time and verify the latest departure information locally.
From Kuala Namu Airport via Binjai
Useful when travelling directly from the airport
- Outside the airport, find an ALS bus travelling to Binjai.
- In Binjai, continue by becak, tuk-tuk or local transport toward Tanah Lapang Binjai.
- Take an L300 or PS minibus heading toward Bukit Lawang.
- Ask to leave at Gotong Royong / Bukit Lawang bus terminal, then continue to your accommodation.
From Medan city via Pinang Baris
Useful after staying overnight in Medan
- Take a taxi, Grab or local transport toward Pinang Baris.
- Ask to stop near Mawar Bakery on Jalan Pinang Baris, a common pick-up point.
- Find the PS / local minibus to Bukit Lawang and agree the fare before boarding.
- Leave at Gotong Royong and use a becak or arranged pick-up for the final short journey.
Public buses do not always follow fixed online schedules. Avoid arriving
late in the day, keep valuables close, and ask the driver to confirm the
destination before boarding.

Can you collect me from my Medan hotel?
Yes. Private and shared pick-up options may be arranged from hotels in
Medan, subject to route and availability.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
