Prepare for Your Trek

Practical information

Open the sections below for packing guidance, trail conditions, responsible wildlife rules, and other important information.

What to bring
  • Small, lightweight backpack
  • Lightweight clothing and a change of clothes
  • Raincoat, swimwear, and small towel
  • Optional small pillow and personal toiletries
  • Toilet paper and personal medication
  • Camera, spare battery, and memory card in a waterproof bag
  • Insect repellent, sunscreen, and torch
  • Plastic bag for wet clothing
  • Sandals or flip-flops for use around camp only
Backpack and luggage

Carry only the items needed during the trek. The original page recommends keeping luggage below 10 kg, but a much lighter day-sized backpack will make steep and humid trails more comfortable.

Clothing and footwear

Wear lightweight, quick-drying clothing. Long sleeves and trousers are optional, although the jungle can feel cool at night. Waterproof or quick-drying trekking shoes with reliable grip are essential for wet and slippery trails.

Fitness and trail conditions

This is a challenging multi-day trek suited to guests with average to good fitness. Expect hills, roots, mud, humidity, river crossings, and uneven or slippery ground. Tell us before booking about injuries, health conditions, or mobility concerns.

Responsible wildlife rules
  • Never touch or feed orangutans or other wildlife
  • Keep the distance requested by your guide
  • Do not call, chase, or attract animals
  • Take all rubbish out of the forest
  • Follow guide instructions at all times
  • Tell us before the trek if you feel unwell
Weather and itinerary changes

Rain is a normal part of rainforest travel. Routes, camp locations, waterfall visits, rafting, and finishing time may change because of weather, river levels, trail conditions, wildlife activity, or safety considerations.

Wildlife sightings

All animals live freely in their natural habitat, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. Spending three days in the forest increases observation opportunities, but wildlife welfare and responsible distance always come first.
