5 Days 4 Nights Bukit Lawang – Berastagi Tours

Day One – Arrival in Bukit Lawang

Pick up at Medan Hotel or Airport and transfer to Bukit Lawang: A scenic 3-4 hour drive to Bukit Lawang, a village on the edge of Gunung Leuser National Park.

Check-In: Accommodation at Green Travelodge or partner hotel.

Evening: Free time to relax and explore the village. Optionally, visit the nearby Bat Cave or enjoy the views of the Bohorok River.

Day Two – Jungle Trekking in Gunung Leuser National Park – 2 D/ 1N

After breakfast, Our guide will pick you up at 8.30am from the hotel in Bukit Lawang and will start the journey into the jungle of Gunung Leuser National Park to see wild orangutans. On the trek, your guide will educate you on the local wildlife, flora and fauna you may encounter in Gunung Leuser. After lunch, continue the trek to see other wildlife such as the Thomas’ leaf monkey, white-handed gibbon, black gibbon, long-tailed macaque, pig-tailed macaque, hornbills, peacocks, monitor lizards and learn about the trees/plants which can be used in traditional medicine. Late afternoon-Our guide will select a suitable spot next to the river to set-up camp. You are then free to enjoy the fresh water of the river, swim, help prepare dinner, or even go fishing.

After dinner, when the weather is good, our team will prepare a bonfire and the guides will entertain you and your group with their jungle skills, games and songs before you settle down to sleep surrounded by the sounds of the jungle and river.

Day Three – Return from Jungle Trekking

Continue the jungle adventure, spotting wildlife. After 2-3 hours, our guide will take all of you to a waterfall where you can swim and relax. After lunch, you will leave the campsite by traditional rafting boat (‘jungle style’) following the river downstream to the village of Bukit Lawang.

Day Four – Travel to Berastagi

At 09:00 am start travel from Bukit Lawang to Berastagi in the Karo Highlands, the centre of the batak-karonese culture (3-4 hours drive) & visit the famous colourful fruit market of Berastagi. Afternoon spend the time to exploring the town of Berastagi on your own: get around the traditional way with a leisurely ride in a „Sado“ (horse carriage) or even a cooking class, if required.

Day Five – Sunrise Hiking Mount Sibayak

Memorable sunrise hike on Sibayak volcano with panoramic views & followed by a relaxing stop at hotsprings, operated by our Guide. Starts at 04:30 am (note: you have to get up pretty early!), ends at 10:30 am: includes English speaking guide, transport to/from the volcano, all entrance fees, take-away breakfast. Afternoon, drive back to Medan hotel/airport (This will be take around 3 to 4 hours Journey).
