Itinerary

BUKIT LAWANG (Orangutan Trek)

Day 01 Arrival in Medan and Transfer to Bukit Lawang

Arrival in Medan: You will be greeted at Medan’s Kuala Namu International Airport by your guide.

Transfer to Bukit Lawang: A scenic 3-4 hour drive to Bukit Lawang, a village on the edge of Gunung Leuser National Park.

Check-In: Accommodation at Green Travelodge or Partner Hotel

Evening: Free time to relax and explore the village. Optionally, visit the nearby Bat Cave or enjoy the views of the Bohorok River.

 

 

Day 02 Jungle Trekking and Orangutan Encounter

After breakfast, our guide will pick you up at 9.00am from our place and you will start your journey into the jungle of Gunung Leuser National Park to see wild orangutans. On your trek (6-7 hours), the guide will educate you on the local wildlife, flora and fauna you may encounter in Gunung Leuser. After lunch, you will continue your trek to see other wildlife (if you’re lucky you may see the Thomas’ leaf monkey, white-handed gibbon, black gibbon, long-tailed macaque, pig-tailed macaque, hornbills, peacocks and monitor lizards) and learn about the trees/plants which can be used in traditional medicine.

Late afternoon-on arrival at the river, you are free to enjoy the fresh water of the Bohorok river, swim and relax. Later on, you will leave the jungle by traditional rafting boat (‘jungle style’) following the river downstream to the village and directly to village of Bukit Lawang.

Berastagi (Volcano Tours)

Day 03 Transfer to Berastagi

At 09:00 am start travel from Bukit Lawang to Berastagi in the Karo Highlands, the centre of the batak-karonese culture (3-4 hours drive) & visit the famous colourful fruit market of Berastagi.

Afternoon spend the time to exploring the town of Berastagi on your own: get around the traditional way with a leisurely ride in a „Sado“ (horse carriage) or even a cooking class, if required.

Day 04 Sunrise Volcano Tour (Half day tour) and travel to lake toba samosir island

Memorable sunrise hike on Sibayak volcano with panoramic views & followed by a relaxing stop at hotsprings, operated by our Guide. Starts at 04:30 am (note: you have to get up pretty early!), ends at 10:30 am: includes English speaking guide, transport to/from the volcano, all entrance fees, take-away breakfast.

Our transfer service will pick you up at 12:30 pm to continue your Karo Highlands adventure with the famous Lake Toba. Stops en route at a traditional Batak Karo village and at the Sipiso-Piso waterfall: includes driver, petrol, all entrance fees on the way, drinks, boat tickets (one way!) from Parapat harbour to Samosir Island.

Lake Toba (Samosir Island & Culture tours)

Day 05 Culinary Tour

Half day tour, starts at 10:00 am after breakfast, will give you impressions of the unspoilt part of this island with great views over Lake Toba. In a small village you will join the locals and prepare your lunch the traditional way on an open fire after harvesting spices and tapioca leaves right from the garden. Afterwards spend the afternoon with swimming, relaxing and just enjoying the beautiful scenery.

 

Day 06 Day Tours (Half day tour)

After breakfast, at 09:00 am, start day tour of the island to visit the traditional Batak House and experiencing the Batak culture of Lake Toba, like example traditional Batak dance at the cultural centre in Simanindo and the historic Batak king’s residence at Ambarita.

At afternoon Back to the Hotel and enjoy time.

 

Day 07 Transport from samosir island to medan city

Transport: Return journey from Samosir Island to Medan Hotel/Airport, the journey is will be take around 5 hours.

Activities:

  • Visit cultural highlights in Medan: Maimun Palace, Great Mosque, Tjong A Fie’s mansion, or other sites.
  • Drop-off at Medan airport or hotel.
