Lake Toba

Lake Toba, located in North Sumatra, Indonesia, is the largest volcanic lake in the world. It was formed by a massive supervolcanic eruption approximately 74,000 years ago, one of the Earth’s most significant eruptions. The lake is approximately 100 kilometers long, 30 kilometers wide, and up to 505 meters deep. In its center lies Samosir Island, which is nearly the size of Singapore. How to Get There

By Air

By Bus/Car
  • Medan, take a bus or hire a car to Parapat, the main town on the shores of Lake Toba. The journey by bus takes around 6 hours.
By Boat
  • From Parapat, take a ferry to Samosir Island. The ferry ride lasts about 30-60 minutes, depending on the destination village (e.g., Tuk Tuk).
