How many nights should we stay in Tangkahan?
Two nights are enough for a short introduction. Three nights give
more flexibility for rain, trekking, river activities and a relaxed
conservation-focused visit.
Does Bukit Lawang Travel offer elephant riding?
No. We do not promote elephant riding, tricks or performance-style
tourism. Any elephant-related visit should prioritise observation,
education and the daily welfare needs of the animals.
Can we bathe or feed the elephants?
Do not assume close interaction will be available. Current rules,
animal welfare, mahout guidance and the elephants’ condition must
decide whether any contact is appropriate. Observation is always an
acceptable alternative.
Is Tangkahan suitable for children?
It can be suitable for active families, but paths, river crossings,
tropical weather and basic facilities require supervision and a
realistic assessment of each child’s ability.
Can we visit Tangkahan as a day trip?
A day trip is possible from some locations, but long driving times
make it rushed. At least one or two nights create a much better
experience.
Can Tangkahan be combined with Bukit Lawang?
Yes. Combining the two destinations is one of the most practical
North Sumatra routes: Bukit Lawang for orangutan trekking and
Tangkahan for rivers, community tourism and slower forest time.
